A Nation's Chronicle: The Canada Gazette

A Nation's Chronicle: The Canada Gazette

Welcome to A Nation's Chronicle: The Canada Gazette. Often referred to as "the official newspaper of the Government of Canada," the Canada Gazette has been an important instrument in the Canadian democratic process for more than 160 years.

Originally released in 2008 but archived in 2013 and removed in 2021, the educational resources can still be accessed through the Internet Archive.

Designed for students in junior high and high school, there are four units available:

The Confederation Chronicles

The Confederation Chronicles

In this unit of seven lessons of various lengths, students will investigate the reasons for and against Confederation and the reaction of people, primarily politicians, in the colonies/provinces prior to Confederation. Students will obtain most of their information from primary-source documents available on the "EvidenceWeb" portion of the Learning Centre website, created by Library and Archives Canada. As a culminating activity, students will research, create, and present their work in newspaper format.

but the EvidenceWeb search tool does not work. You can still use "Browse Themes" to access the documents.  I'd recommend downloading all of the content you want to use, in case some of it becomes unavailable in the future.
